I’ll let you in on a little no-so-secret secret … in exactly ONE week we’re piling in the minivan (all six of us … including Molly), and driving for 25 hours to find sun, warmth, and the ocean. I. can’t. wait.
Let me show you one of the reasons why I’m excited …
While we haven’t exactly had too rough of a winter this year, it’s still been cold. Too cold. Because I am wimpy and because hauling around 3 little kiddos with all their hats, gloves, boots, and snowpants takes far too long, I can’t wait for less clothes, some sunglasses, and some ocean water.
That’s as long as the 25 hour car ride with a 4 year old, 2 year old, 8 month old, and 1 dog doesn’t do us in first …
Are we crazy?!?!
Our trip to Destin last year was totally worth the drive, so I’m hoping with the addition of a baby and dog (and another 5 hours each way), we’ll be able to say the same thing this year. Fingers crossed.
So, what does all this have to do with these totally awesome AwesomeSAUCE Valentines?? Not much, really. I just really wanted to share my news. That, and we’ll be getting back from Florida one day before the boys’ Valentine’s parties at school. Therefore … I’m happy to have these done now … before our trip (and before we get back to 392,017,489 loads of laundry, 120,335 bags to unload, and possibly three sleep deprived kiddos).
So … on with it, huh?
Last year, we made these cute picture Valentines to give out to Owen’s classmates (left) and to the Grandparents (right side):
Lollipops (or suckers, as my boys call them) are always a hit with the kiddos … maybe not such a hit with the parents or teachers, however.
Since Matt and I are almost done with the Whole 30 ‘diet’ (more to come on that … 5 days left, and counting), I was determined to find a less unhealthy alternative for Valentine’s this year. I thought about a toy … like a little monkey with a cute saying ‘I like hangin’ with you, Valentine’, or a penguin with a card saying ‘It’s fun chillin’ with you’, or some other animal with a cute saying, but then I decided that, at least my boys, like to get food related Valentines (which are still allowed at their school … ). And if the rest of the kids in their classes are similar, I figured I should try to find a less sugary (or at least processed sugar-y), more ‘wholesome’ choice that still might be considered a ‘treat’.
Enter … Applesauce pouches.
My boys love all baby food pouches … applesauce included (they even like the ones with spinach and broccoli mixed in …. shhhh, don’t tell them). I sometimes even resort to bribing them to finish their dinner and so they can have a ‘pouch’ for dessert (a pouch that packs in some veggies … a win-win all around).
I made some cute tags for the pouches, tied a ribbon around ’em, and signed Owen’s name (though thinking about it now, I probably should have let him sign them, huh?).
Nothing too fancy, but perfect for 2, 3, and 4 year olds, right? Heck, I secretly even like these applesauce pouches (or maybe that’s because it happens to be one of the sweet things ‘allowed’ on this Whole30 diet).
And … because I’m pretty awesomesauce, too, I thought I’d share the tags with you!
You can download the colorful tags (like in the picture above HERE or by clicking on the image below):
I also made a pink and red version which you can download HERE or by clicking on the image below:
They print 6 tags per page, and I simply cut them out with a scissor. They’re 3″ in diameter, though, if you happen to have the right circle punch (I doubt the four year olds care about your perfect circles, but a punch would save a bit of time on your end)!
Relatively healthy and still considered a ‘treat’ (at least by my boys). Score one for mom! #winning
Best part is … these treats are done (with almost a month to spare)! Score two for mom!
Why thank you, Ryan. Score three for mom!
And, finally, I think you’re awesomesauce for stopping by today (last time using that made up word … promise)! Hope you’re having a great week. And … if you happen to have any recommendations for LONG car tips with babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and/or 7 year old vizslas, please do share. At least I’m not 31 weeks preggo for this car trip (and wearing a swimsuit might be a bit more appealing. A tiny bit).
