Happy June!  Summer makes me happy, and the start of Summer makes me even more happy in anticipation of the gorgeous months ahead!  Hey … up here in Minnesota, we do Summer’s right y’all (since they’re so dang short!).

Today, in honor of all things Summer and patriotic, I’m sharing a quick idea for Dip Dyed Napkins to go with a Patriotic Place Setting for your backyard BBQ’s, picnics, and any other outdoor gathering …

What says Summer more than denim, red, white, and blue, right?!?  Well maybe lemonade, watermelon, pool parties, and boat rides, but also red, white, and blue!!

This is really the easiest project … and festive and fun!

SUPPLIES

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • White cotton napkins
  • RIT dye in Royal Blue (not pictured)
  • Red scrap fabric
  • Blue straws
  • Denim tags (I got mine at Michael’s at 60% off this past weekend, but any tags would work)
  • Red sparkly Pom Pom Balls (also at Michael’s in the kids crafts aisle).
  • A bit of twine, baker’s twine, or ribbon
  • These awesome denim chargers (again … 60% off at Michael’s this past weekend):

I sound like an ad for Michael’s, but I promise they’re not paying me … I just happen to love their Make It Market!

PROCESS

  1. Dye the ends of your napkins by simply dipping them into a bowl of RIT dye.  I used Royal Blue, and just placed about 2″  of one end into the liquid and let the rest soak up just a bit.  Here’s how they turned out:Dip Dyed Napkin and Patriotic Place Sitting | View From The Fridge
  2. Next, grab your scrap fabric and cut a small strip.  I wanted the frayed edge look, so I simply cut a tiny slit in one end and ripped the rest of the strip.  Tie the strip around your napkin to act as a napkin ring: Dip Dyed Napkin and Patriotic Place Sitting | View From The Fridge
  3. Next, grab your straw, tag or label, and some twine.  Tie your label onto one end of your straw similar to below: Dip Dyed Napkin and Patriotic Place Sitting | View From The Fridge
  4. Grab your sparkly pom and stick the straw into one end.  If you’re planning on using the straws … as straws …. then just lightly stick it onto the end so it can be easily removed by your guests.  If you aren’t using the straws for drinking … or if you have some kiddos that might want to use these as ‘wands’ after {or during} the meal, then you may want to hot glue ’em on to the end of the straws.
  5. Stick your straw into the napkin, and you’re done!Dip Dyed Napkin and Patriotic Place Sitting | View From The Fridge

So simple … kid friendly … adult friendly … and Patriotic.  Maybe for your 4th of July BBQ’s?

And the dip dyed napkins can totally be used again … maybe for another occasion.  Add orange accents for a Fall Table scape?  Gold touches for a New Years Party?  Pink for Valentine’s Day?  They’re just a little more fun than plain ol’ white ones (at least I think so)!Dip Dyed Napkin and Patriotic Place Sitting | View From The Fridge
