Owen {and Charlie’s?} Big Boy Room

October 18, 2013

Owen is 3.  Almost three and a half.  And he still loves his crib.  He has never tried to climb out (because I’m pretty sure I’d be a piece of cake for him).  He has never asked for a big boy bed.  I’ve never been in a hurry to move him, but we’ve finally decided the time has arrived (at least in the near future).  That’s change one.

Change two?  We’ve decided to move the boys into one room.  We knew this would happen eventually, but have also decided that this is a good time.  Why have them share a room?  We only have three bedrooms in our house, and have no guest bedroom.  I’d be nice to have a place for Matt’s family to sleep when they come up to visit.  And the second reason … we just think it will be good for them.  Maybe they’ll grow a little closer.  Maybe they’ll be best buds.  Maybe they’ll stop fighting (ha!).

So … what’s the plan?  We haven’t entirely worked out the details, but here’s what we’re thinking;

  • Paint walls … you guessed it … white.
  • Create an accent wall in navy (paint?  wallpaper?  not sure….)
  • Color scheme:  Navy and white with accents of orange and turquoise.
  • Purchase a ‘big boy’ bed for Owen
  • Remove odd shelves from ‘closet’…possibly relocate to our bedroom
  • Add more storage for books/toys/etc
  • New curtains
  • New light fixture(!!)
  • Possibly a desk area or workstation
  • New carpet … though, I’m not sure this will happen right away

Here are a couple ‘before’ pictures (disclaimer:  we haven’t spent much time in here…)

Here is a quick (and thus, sure to be updated as we go along) idea of what we’re thinking for the room:

Anyway, let’s talk accent walls.

I love, love, love this wallpaper from Serena and Lily:

Love this wall paper for an accent wall!

It’s a bit spendy, so paint would be more ideal … which brings me to this AWESOME wall from Birch and Bird.  We could paint this, right?

Or, we could stick to a simple, thick orange (or navy) stripe.  Love how the stripe in the bottom picture one goes onto the door, too!

Or, how about this awesome triangle accent wall (maybe slightly different colors) from Cute Stencils:

Vertical stripes?

navy and white bold stripes?

So many good ideas … so many possibilities … stay tuned to what we come up with!  Any suggestions are ALWAYS welcome!  Happy Friday, and have a wonderful weekend!
