FIVE.

An entire hand.

Where on earth has time gone?!?

Prepare for a lot of pictures.  And some sappiness.  Just warnin’ ya.  And if you’re not a Grandma … this post just might not be for you (just sayin’ … it’s a lot, a lot, of pictures) …

Five years ago today, at approximately 12:02pm, Owen made his entrance to this world … and made me a Mom for the first time!

I’m a Mom!

And he made us a happy FAMILY of three!

And, just like that … he’s 5.  FIVE.  And {along with his best friend, Avery), a recent graduate of Ms. Smaron’s Preschool Class:

Owen, his best friend, Avery, and his favorite teacher, Mrs. Smaron.

How on earth did he get so old?  And big?  And so grown-up?!?

Owen is an amazing little guy, and I am more and more proud of him every day.

He loves to climb things (all things) with a talent that amazes me:

Look, Mom, I can now scale fences.

He has become an avid bike rider … actually, just this past week:

He’s so proud {even with the training wheels}

As the days go by, Matt and I realize more and more how ‘easy’ and ‘delightful’ of a kiddo Owen really is/was.  While he has his moments (preschool graduation was one of these), he really is laid back, polite, and obedient (that last word sounds bad … is there a better one for a child that actually listens most of the time and sincerely wants to do what is right?!?).

I’m pretty sure Owen is going to be an all star athlete (do all moms think this?!?) despite his ‘small’ stature at the moment.  He’s quite the soccer player:

All Star Soccer Line?!?

And skater (or ‘Hockey’ player in his mind):

Or … he may just decide to play up the ‘surfer dude’ thing one day on the shores of California:

He’s an awesome Big’gest’ Brother to Charlie and Ben (and a huge fan of the Hawkeyes):

He loves Molly and is so sweet to her (and Owen is, hands down, her favorite little boy of the moment):

He loves fishing (especially with Grandpa) …

And Baseball games … the Twins especially:

He also loves … with a hilarious obsession, his elephant ‘Pillow Pet’:

He’s not my ‘crafting’ kiddo (that’s Charlie), but when he decides to, he has amazing concentration on his ‘craw-jects’ (that’s what he calls them):

He’s one of the happiest little guys I know  …

Even when his shirt is on backwards … and inside out:

That’s a nice look, Owen!

So … as Owen turns FIVE today, here are a couple things (and a couple ‘Owen thoughts’) that I hope I never forget about him at this age, and some of the things I adore about him the most:

  • “Mom, I’m crawlowing you!”  Crawloing = Following.
  • “Let’s go work on a Crawject”  (Project)
  • “Read the constructions, Charlie” (Instructions)
  • “Mom, watch … I can hit Home Depots!”  (instead of ‘home runs’).
  • “Look, there’s another golf field over there!”  (golf course)
  • Me: “Are you gonna drive a fancy blue car when you grow up, Owen?” Owen:  “Nope, I’m going to drive a minivan just like ours.”  We’ll see if he still feels that was in 11 years.
  • Watching me nurse Ben, he asks:  “Which is the water one and which is the milk one?”

Owen prefers vanilla ice cream to chocolate (just like me!), is obsessed with all things Spider-Man related, loves cartoons (and has even been known to watch to occasional Barbie (or as his calls it, Barbie-Q) or Princess show on Netflix), has a sweet spot for dogs (and prefers the big dogs), loves frogs, toads, worms, and bugs (unlike me), and could probably live on a diet of bananas and peanut butter.  His favorite thing on earth, however, are popsicles.

And he is the sweetest little boy on Earth (did I mention that):

He compliments me when I ‘look nice’ (which is basically if I ever actually do my hair, get dressed, and put makeup on).  He picks me flowers (of the dandelion variety lately), and is wonderful at doling out the hugs:

And I’ll never, ever forget when he came to see me in the hospital when I had Ben how insistent he was that he get me flowers.  I think he demanded that Grandma and Grandpa take him downstairs to buy some flowers immediately.  Seriously … it still brings a tear to my eye thinking about how absolutely adorable and determined he was to bring me flowers that day.  Owen is Five | View From The Fridge

So … a big ‘Happy 5th Birthday‘ to my ‘big’ boy.  I love you so much it hurts, and I sorta wish you could stay just this age … forever.

It was a short 5 years ago that you were this little:

Owen1

I hope you always want to bring your mom flowers.  I hope you always have a huge love for dogs.  I hope your dimple never fades.  I hope you always maintain your laid-back demeanor.  And I hope you continue to be a wonderful big brother to Charlie and Ben … they’re lucky to have you!

All my love as you turn a ‘whole hand’ today!
