Kitchen Progress Part 2

November 27, 2013
etcsign

Are you in Holiday Mood yet?  The season officially kicks off tomorrow with the big meal!!  We are busy getting ready to host tomorrow (have I mentioned that before?!?!?), but I thought I’d quickly share some progress we’ve made in the kitchen.  Hey, that is where everyone seems to spend their time, right … especially on Thanksgiving (or in front of the TV watching football … ahem, men).

We’ve been busy painting it … wait for it … white and light grey.  Shocking, huh?

Here’s a couple before shots (notice the red brick, lighter brick, yellow paint, and blue):

Yellow and lots of brick

More Blue

A couple months ago, we painted over the brick wall and the blue:

Brick Before

Brick before … sign had to go!

Brick after

Brick after … better, right?

And as for the blue walls:

No more blue!

No more blue!

And now on to our more recent progress…

First up, tackling that red brick backsplash here:

And red brick backsplash here!

and here …

Red brick is now white (Valspar color matched to Benjamin Moore’s Cloud White) … MUCH better (in my opinion) ….

Red brick is now white … hooray!

Next up, tackling that yellow.  I found a great grey at Lowe’s, Gravity by Valspar:

Grey walls!

So that’s all the progress for now, but it does make a HUGE difference (again … in my opinion).

We still have quite a bit to do.  Here’s our Kitchen to-do list from when we moved in:

  1. Paint over sign and brick pillar/column
  2. Paint over blue
  3. Paint over red brick backsplash
  4. Paint over yellow
  5. Paint inside of cabinets (white)
  6. Paint Green ‘overhang’ above peninsula
  7. Paint all trim … yep, white.
  8. Refinish floors … we’re thinking dark brown
  9. New rugs
  10. Eventually …. replace brick backsplash with something more fun :)
  11. Fancy fume hood … ha!  Maybe someday in my dreams??

One more time, for my sake …

And now … some progress:

Better

Much better and brighter with the white and grey, right??

Now, I wonder if anyone will notice tomorrow on Thanksgiving???

Speaking of Thanksgiving, I hope everyone has a great day with their families or friends!  Happy Thanksgiving!!

Katie I just love you house. I browsing all your older post and I came across this one. I can’t wait until I have my own house to start making permanent changes to. I love the house I’m in now but we just rent it.

That brick wall and the message board looks great. And your dining area looks so open.

Thanks, Courtney. We actually rented this house for two years before buying this past September (and then the fun/chaos began)!! We had a bust fall, but since the day after Thanksgiving its been pretty much torn up! Our goal is to have it reasonably put back together by when the baby arrives.
