J&J’s new house

How was your Labor Day weekend? Do anything exciting? I didn’t do a whole lot of anything worth writing about. Most of my time was spent trying to entertain the boys while single parenting (with the help of my mom, of course!). Matt spent a couple days in Iowa City (our favorite college town!!) and watching the Hawkeyes lose to Northern Illinois. It appears this might be a long season for Hawkeye football fans. On Monday, however, I did do some physical labor helping my brother move into his new house!!! Yep… our brother, Jim, and his girlfriend, Jess just bought their first home!! Congrats to the new home owners!! We are more than excited for them! It’s an absolutely adorable home, so I thought I’d share some pics. I know they both have big plans for this house, so we can consider these the ‘before’ shots (also … they are the listing photos, so all the furniture/décor belongs to the previous owners). Can’t wait to see the place once Jim and Jess get unpacked! Here’s the cute front of the house from the street! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their landscaping! Also…which you can’t tell very well from this picture, their lawn is also gorgeous (not a bit of crab grass…which makes me very envious)!

As you walk through the front door, you walk into their entry way and living room. Here’s the listing picture of the living room (a.k.a. the before). This is one room they’ve already painted a fresh new color. Note these awesome floors! They’re beautiful!

Off to the left of the living room, there are two bedrooms. Again, the pictures below are the previous owner’s listing pics. As you can guess from the pictures, they had two little kids … and thus an all boy room, and an all girl room!

Keep walking toward the back of the house, and you arrive in their recently updated kitchen. The cabinets and countertops are recent upgrades. Here are the ‘befores’ … jjkitchen jjkitchen2 Jim and Jess have already replaced the fridge and dishwasher with stainless appliances. The kitchen leads to a fun little three season porch, and then out some sliding doors to the FANTASTIC deck!! Seriously, this might be my favorite thing of their whole house (besides the floors, landscaping, huge master bedroom, awesome remodeled basement with the softest carpet EVER …)!! Back to the deck … check it out …

J&J, looks like your backyard is Molly ready!! When do you want to dog sit?? (Joking … sort of). So, I mentioned that awesome recently finished basement with awesome carpet … here it is:

So much potential (movie watching area, bar, pool table, poker table, playroom for their nieces and nephews(??)!!! To go along with the great living space in the basement, there’s a newly finished bathroom. I. LOVE. THE. FLOORS, which this picture does not do justice to!

Okay, one last area … the upstairs master bedroom. Here’s the listing photo …

The walls have already been painted, and the {lovely} green carpet is scheduled for extinction in a couple days. But what a great space, huh? Plenty of closet space, too (this is a good thing since I’m pretty sure Jess has more clothes (and accessories) than anyone I know). So, there you have it! Their new home! Note to self after Monday: Refrigerators are extremely hard to load/unload from Uhaul and house (we hat to get creative … see below) … worth having them professionally delivered and installed!!!

Can’t wait to see how everything looks once they are able to get unpacked a bit! One last thing worth mentioning… the previous homeowners were awesome (from what I hear … I didn’t actually meet them). They left the house (and garage) immaculate, they left the beautiful flower boxes on the deck (full of flowers). They had to stop back to get something they forgot, and they took the time to show J&J how to work a couple things, and … they left a six pack of beer in the fridge for J&J to celebrate with! SO thoughtful!! I’m also filing this as a ‘note-to-self’; Next time we move, I will try to do the same for the next home owners. It’s amazing how much that meant to J&J!
