Ummm …. want to know a secret? I have THE ugliest feet … ever. Seriously … they’re NOT attractive in the least. I would show you some pictures, but unlike last week’s Facial Mask post … I’m simply WAY too embarrassed. I took some before pictures … but they are AWFUL. Awful.
I tend to live in denial of my feet during most of the winter. I wake up … put socks on immediately … take a shower … put socks on immediately … climb in bed and then finally remove my socks from under the covers. My feet barely see daylight. Except for in yoga. And then I’m super embarrassed and just hope everyone is focused on themselves (and not my dry, cracked, and weird looking feet).
We were recently in Florida, and although it was just my hubby and kids that got to see my lovely neglected feet … I decided that I should maybe … just maybe, get a pedicure. Well … that didn’t happen, BUT I found something that is quite possibly even better!
It softens, removes toxins, AND adds a much needed mineral to your body (magnesium) … all at the same time. PLUS … it’s super relaxing (and sleep inducing, so do it just before bed).
It’s just like being at the spa. Minus the price tag. And plus the convenience of being able to roll into bed one minute later.
You can even do this while you have your Restoring Face Mask on (just put on some relaxing music, close your eyes, and pretend you’re at an expensive spa. Oh … and your husband and kids just might think you’re crazy, but it’s all in the name of beauty … and health. They’ll get over it)!
First, let me tell you HOW to mix this up (and, by the way … it’s super easy), then I’ll tell you WHY it works.
You’ll need (for quite a bit batch):

- 1 cup of sea salt*
- 1 cup of Epsom salt*
- 2 cups of Baking Soda*
- 12 – 15 drops of your favorite Essential Oil(s). For this Stress Relieving Soak, I used Stress Away blend from Young Living (comes in the Starter Kit). I’ve also added Peppermint, Lavender, or even Lemon or Lime to my soak.
MIX IT UP
And here’s how quick it is to mix up:
Combine sea salt, epsom salt, and baking soda in a large bowl. Mix well.
For foot soaks or baths, I love these oils …
- Peppermint … for a refreshing, cooling, and soothing soak. Peppermint also has anti-inflammatory properties.
- Lavender .. for a relaxing soak.
- Lime … also refreshing and invigorating
- Pan Away … this blend of wintergreen and other oils will cools sore, tired feet.
Or some combination of any of these. Stress Away (my favorite choice) is a blend of Lavender, Lime, Cedarwood and several other oils that really do … melt away stress!
The drops of oil will look like this before mixing:
Using a spoon, mix the ingredients again to distribute the oil(s) throughout the mixture.
Once combined, store in a sealable container. When ready to use … pour about 1/4 cup of the salt/oil mixture into a bowl, add hot water (as hot as you can stand), and add feet!
Grab a good book or a fun magazine and soak for 15 minutes or up to 1 hour!
The only picture you’ll be seeing of my feet …
When finished … dry off feet and apply a high quality moisturizer.
Now for the WHY. Why is this foot soak so awesome (try it and you’ll know it feels amazing, but here’s some of the science behind it):
The epsom salt is the key ingredient in this soak. It helps pull toxins out of your body while adding magnesium into your body. It reduces overall inflammation, helps prevent or relieve migraines, eases stress, softens your skin, and much, much more (read about it all HERE and HERE).
Baking soda is good for exfoliating and eliminating odor. It will also help neutralize the chemicals in your water (especially important if you’re not using filtered water for your soak).
The oils you choose to add will also enhance the experience. Peppermint to cool, soothe, and invigorate. Lavender to relax. Tea Tree as a disinfectant, anti-fungal, and for other issues like athlete’s foot. Eucalyptus as a powerful anti-bacterial, anti-viral soak. Read more about Essential Oils HERE.
Even NOT knowing all the science, when you’re done with this soak, your feet (and entire body) will feel relaxed (and probably ready for a restful night’s sleep)!
Now … with Mother’s Day coming up and the end of the school year (think teacher appreciation gifts), wouldn’t this be an awesome HOMEMADE gift??
I guarantee your mom or that special teacher in your lives will absolutely LOVE this foot soak!
Download the label template HERE (it prints four per 8.5″ x 11″ piece of paper). Print it onto adhesive backed paper and simply stick it onto the jar!
I purchased a 10 pack of wooden scoops HERE (for all the gift giving I intend to do).
Or … just keep the whole batch for yourself (that’s allowed, too!).
So now … my ugly, weird looking feet are looking a bit more presentable these days. They feel amazing, they’re so soft, and the dead skin is gone. Now … if I could just get rid of the fact that they’re slightly webbed (yes, like a duck) and have multiple bone spurs (I told you they were bad!!) #itwas10yearsoffigureskating
If you try this … I want to hear what you think! I’m pretty sure you’ll be amazed!
