Here’s to 2014!

December 30, 2014

If you’re in the mood for 12 million pictures … you just may like this post.  If not, you better just stop now :)  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Also, this post has nothing to do with my actual blog projects (that might be a post for tomorrow …. ).  It’s a look back at our 2014 … on a personal level.

And before I flood your eyeballs with picture after picture after picture, let me just note quickly:

3 things I’ve learned while creating this post  …

1.  I love pictures and take WAAAAY too many of them

2.  I love to document parts of our year (trips, outings …. oh, and births).

3.  I should probably not wait until the last days of the year … to document our ENTIRE year.  Jeez.

(New Years Resolution for 2015 … document our year as we go along … several times per year.)

The Stahl’s 2014 In Review:

Well, I started out the year like this:

24 weeks pregnant

And, what sounds like a great idea when you’re 30+ weeks pregnant, have two other small boys, and small(ish) car?  How about a 20 hour car ride?  And that’s 20 hours each way.

That’s what the winter did to us last year.  It was brutal.  BRUTAL, my friends, so the thought of sunshine, warm air, and the ocean was worth the ‘challenge’ of 40 hours of us all packed into a Honda Accord.  10 hours of which also included Molly laying on the floor beneath the boys’ seats.

Introducing the boys to the ocean and the absolutely gorgeous beaches of Destin, FL was indescribable!!  I think going on vacation as a parent is almost more fun than as a kid.  It was so fun to see how excited the boys were.  The excitement on their faces was totally worth standing in line for the bathroom in my giant maternity swimsuit with my enormous preggo belly with a bunch of college spring breaker ladies with ‘barely there’ suits.  And their cocktails.  My how things have changed …    (oh, and I wouldn’t change it for the world).

Destin, FL 2014

In April, we celebrated Charlie’s 2nd birthday with a Thomas The Train Party.  He’s obsessed, I tell ya!  I think his train collection is worth more than my entire wardrobe (those little trains are expensive, jeez!).

We spent the rest of the Spring getting ready for Baby #3 to arrive (who we now know is Ben)!  He decided to take his time joining us.  Owen kept me company at the park one day on one of my attempts to entice Baby to come out (at 5 days past my due date).  Someone told me that if you walk around the block with one foot on the curb and one foot off the curb, it just might induce labor.  So … I gave it a whirl.  For a good half hour.  The others at the park may have thought I lost my mind.  And, if you’re wondering …. I didn’t work.

Trying to convince Baby #3 to make an appearance!!

But finally, at a whole week late, and just 4 hours after his big brother, Owen’s, 4th birthday … Ben {finally} arrived!  (Read all about that HERE).

Welcome To The World, Ben!

And … since this was the highlight of our 2014, here are a whole bunch of pictures of the little guy (and everyone that came to meet him):

And some more …

Since we didn’t exactly know when Ben would be arriving, we had Owen’s Superhero Birthday party a couple weeks after his birthday (he doesn’t look too sad about waiting, huh?):

To celebrate Matt’s parent’s 40th anniversary, we took a bunch of family pictures in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden a couple weeks after Ben was born.  Our friend, Shinano, always takes our family pictures, and we love how they turn out.  She’s so fun to work with AND she manages to capture some great candid shots!  We love her style!

As for the rest of the summer, it was pretty eventful.  Twins games, picnics, Grandma’s pool, cheering on USA at the World Cup, etc:

We even did some scootering with capes (and rain boots??):

Ben celebrated his first Fourth of July by watching his brothers ride in a parade, and taking a quick nap on the grass at the park (oh, and also my wearing matching pajamas with his brothers):

At the end of July, we spent a week at a beautiful (and pretty secluded) cabin in Northern Wisconsin with Matt’s family:

Lots of S’more making, Canoeing, Fishing, Hiking, and quality time with the cousins!  That week went by way too fast!!

As a finale to summer, we braved the Minnesota State Fair with all three boys, and it was mostly a success!

This Fall, the boys started preschool!  Don’t the look excited on their first day?!?

Owen was busy at Soccer this Fall (with Dad as the coach there’s no slacking), and Hockey (a.k.a. ‘Learn To Skate’):

Soccer & Hockey!

We celebrated Jim and Jess’ engagement!!  Can’t wait for October 10th, 2015!!

Speaking of future sister-in-law, Jess, we all went to watch her Sing the National Anthem at the Twins Game one evening:

We traveled up to Duluth for my cousin Steve’s wedding.  The boys got a kick out of Uncle Jim’s tux and funny suspenders:

Before the Fall colors faded, we were able to squeeze in some family pictures (again … photos compliments of the very talented Shinano of Some Sort Of Escapade:

Molly seemed to be enjoying herself, but appears to be yelling at us about something in this picture:

and just like that, it was Thanksgiving:

Ben's 1st Thanksgiving!

We had a low key Thanksgiving this year at my Mom’s (as opposed to hosting our extended family last year):

Thanksgiving 2014

Ben fell asleep halfway through dinner, and we resorted to putting Molly on a leash under the dining room table, but my mom made an awesome meal!

The Christmas season this year was a whirlwind, and I’m not really sure where the time went, but it was so fun!  We decorated the house early this year, but after that …. I’m not really sure what we did all month.

Christmas 2014

Christmas 2014

We did some bell ringing as a family, went to Macy’s 8th floor ‘Santa Land’, saw the Christmas Train come through in Loretto, more matching PJ’s, and lots of Spiderman stuff (for Owen) and Thomas The Train stuff for Charlie!

My mom and family 2014 (one new addition this year!):

And now to New Years!  If we can all recover from this nasty flu that is crippling our household at the moment!  Ish!

Here’s to a happy, productive, successful … and, hopefully HEALTHY 2015!  oh, and I promise to have some projects to share soon!  #slacker  :)
