Good Morning! I’m so excited to be a part of a huge Fall Home Tour Blog Hop this week with more than 35 other bloggers! We’re each opening up our doors and giving you a quick tour of our homes and our Fall Decor this season!
Now … I signed up for this tour about 3 months ago, and thought to myself, “Oh, I’ll have plenty of time to get my house decorated for Fall”. I had tons of great ideas in my head. Lots of cute DIY projects I wanted to finish, but … as always seems to happen around here lately …. I kinda ran out of time (where did those 3 months go?!?)! We did get plenty of Fall ‘decorating’ done, but there’s always more I’d like to do! This is also my first official ‘home tour’, so bear with me here!
If you’re visiting for the first time … Welcome!! I hope you take a little time to look around!
For Fall this year, I wanted something more neutral and more subtle than the traditional orange, red, yellow, etc. I’m not a huge fan of redecorating everything for the seasons (except maybe for Christmas where the whole house seems to be overtaken). I’m also not a huge fan of ‘stuff’ (i.e. clutter). I tried hard to keep most of the decor neutral with just a few pops of orange and turquoise, and also not to go too overboard with the Fall ‘trinkets’ (know what I mean??).
What did I end up with? Lots of mums on the front porch (I got a great deal last week), lots of hydrangeas inside, quite a few faux wheat stems, a little burlap, and several white pumpkins. I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking …
So … let me be the first to WELCOME you TO OUR HOME!!
I have a thing for front porches. I love them. I have always dreamed of having one. And on my front porch that I dreamed of, there were two white rocking chairs. Well … this past month I found these two rocking chairs at Menard’s for $50 each (on clearance). It was too good of deal to pass up, so they came home with me that day (we’ll see how well they hold up).
I’m really not a huge fan of those pillows on the rocking chairs, but they work for now. I’m pretty sure they were a clearance buy at Target several years back. I did, however, find these cute burlap wraps for them:
These wraps would be an awesome DIY project (and SO easy)! You could stencil on any saying, put some velcro on the back, and instantly give your throw pillows a ‘seasonal’ makeover! I however, bought mine (at Bachman’s if there are any local Twin Cities readers around). In theory … you could keep your same throw pillows out all year round and switch out the ‘wrap’ for the seasons!
I like ’em … my husband tells me, however, that they’re a bit too ‘old lady’ for him. What do you think??
Also on the front porch, this rustic wood pumpkin with a cute corrugated metal stem:
I would be very excited to tell you how I made that pumpkin myself, but I didn’t. Bought it from Mama’s Happy (again, if you’re local). It would be easy to DIY, though!!
I found a great deal on Mums this year, too! 3 large plants for $18 (Dundee Nursery … ). Because of this deal, I went a bit crazy with the mums:
Mums are great, amiright??? Just might be my favorite part of Fall!
Moving on … I made this wreath for the front door, and it seriously took 5 minutes or less!
As you open that door, you will be greeted by Ms. Molly … and a large red barn door.
Hello red!! The entryway has no fall decor (as we’re in the process of painting it something other than red), so let’s keep moving.
To the right of this hallway, is our dining room / living room. Let’s take a peek:
The Fall Decor in here is pretty subtle. Hydrangeas, wheat stems, plus a couple faux and real pumpkins.
I made this Be Grateful Pallet Art for our mantel in the neutral grey/white color scheme I am going for with a little turquoise:
Our coffee table decor (which may not last too long, as Charlie thinks those pumpkins are ‘balls’ and has already tried throwing them around):
Miss Molly has claimed our chair by the window and insists on sitting right on top of the back pillow. It does drive me a little crazy … it’s a good thing she’s cute (but also wouldn’t move for my picture!!):
I added a pitcher full of hydrangeas in here … because fresh flowers make everything better:
I updated our throw pillows with some pops of color. I bought the grey/orange pillows at Home Goods, and made the elephant pillow covers using this envelope method (recognize that elephant fabric? I used it to make a reversible table runner here).
Now, if you’ve been here before, you will notice we finally got some new dining room furniture! Up until about a month ago, this room was empty (it did, however, make a great soccer field for the boys). We found this Jonathan Adler table at JC Penny on clearance for $200 (90% off)!! Let me repeat … $200! And it’s huge! It was the floor model, but it’s in pretty good shape! Now, we need chairs! For the purposes of this picture, I stole our kitchen table chairs. I also bought that ‘unique’ console table on the left below from Mama’s Happy this month. It’s made from an old door! I love it, but need to find some storage bins/ottomans to put underneath.
Anyway, here’s the dining room (note the half painted trim …. We’re in the middle of a million project, and that just happens to be one of them. Anyone volunteer to finish painting the trim for me?!?! Soooo sick of it!!):
On the table, I have more hydrangeas and pumpkins. I made that color dipped twig vase a couple days ago, and it works perfect on the table!
I also made that book page ‘runner’ with some craft balsa wood from Michael’s. I just used some mod podge and adhered the book pages onto it!
Here’s a close up of the console table (and my new Nate Berkus lamp from Target … $15 for the base AND shade!!):
Moving into the kitchen, I added a few Fall touches in here, too (very few..):
If you look closely, I added more wheat stems to a vase on those shelves … some faux leaves in the yellow vases … and filled a large cylinder vase full of mini white pumpkins (and more hydrangeas … seriously, I think I need to plant a bunch of hydrangea bushes outside next year just so I can have fresh flowers!!):
Subtle changes for Fall …
And, as for the rest of the Kitchen:
I set the table! I used my reversible table runner, some gold chargers, more wheat stems, and some faux fruit (that I found on clearance at Marshall’s and spray painted different shades of gold):
I also love my new ‘Gather’ sign for the kitchen:
Looks very Fall-ish right? Also (I’m sad to say that I also didn’t DIY this … more from Mama’s Happy).
Well, folks … that concludes the Fall Tour! I hope you found some inspiration or some good ideas or just got a better feel for our family and home!
Thanks so much for stopping by today! You can see more of our home here. We’re still finishing up the nursery and the big boys’ room (we just may be the slowest people on earth ….).
Now … if you’re looking for more inspiration, or just love touring other’s homes, there’s plenty more to go check out!
