Entryway Makeover Progress {One Room Challenge Week 3}

Happy Friday!  I do love Fridays.  Even though I’m a stay-at-home mom, Fridays are my favorite day of the week … hands down.

Two weeks ago, when I mentioned that we were joining in the One Room Challenge again this Spring, I committed to updating our {very RED} entryway and giving you all an update every Thursday.  I lied.  Last week came and went with all kinds of emotional, personal stuff on the blog.  And this week, well … I’m a day late.  It’s Friday and I promised Thursday updates, but bear with me.

We actually have done quite a bit in the space since the start two weeks ago!

Let’s recap for a minute:

THE BEFORE

Not terrible, but way too red for our tastes  It’s also such a small, narrow space that only gets good light in the late evening, that we wanted a way to lighten and brighten it up.

THE INSPIRATION

Here is the inspiration board that I shared when we started off:

Lots of WHITE, and black, and some small, fun pops of color.

THE TO-DO LIST

And here’s a glance at our TO-DO list starting out:

PROGRESS TO DATE

So now, let me give you a little update on what we’ve been able to accomplish so far …

On Wednesday, I shared the before and afters of our painting effort:

My helpers and I took the space from RED to a nice, bright, crisp WHITE:

They tell me that they painted to entryway (little do they know, however, that it took many, many more hours than the 15 minutes they helped with)!  Click HERE for all the painting details!

For some interest, we also added a herringbone pattern on the wall above the paneling in the nook:

Now … speaking of that paneling, it was in rough shape before we started.  Take a look …

After we cleared out the gazillion coats, bags, hats, shoes, etc … the nook looked like this:

And here’s a close up of those boards:

We probably should have replaced all the paneling, but that just wasn’t in the budget (or timeline) right now.  So … with A LOT of putty, and sandpaper, and paint … it’s looked a million times better after:

This past week, we also managed to start on the built in bench for this nook (that will replace that puny looking one above).  Here’s a glimpse at our progress there (full tutorial to come once we actually finish it):

We’ve also been staining wood like crazy, and I’m in love with the deep, rich Kona stain:

We’ve also started on the coat rack project … here’s a preview:

We’ve hung the picture ledges (though they still need some pictures, art, and fun objects):

And we’ve started collecting some accessories for the space:

Yesterday, I also started giving these crates that will serve as shoe storage a makeover (with Molly watching closely):

So … lots of unfinished projects started, but we have made some progress (which is good since there’s only 3 weeks left of the challenge!!).

UPDATED TO-DO LIST

Here’s the updated to do list after these past two weeks:

This upcoming week, I’m also headed to SNAP (a blog conference in Salt Lake City), so I’m hoping to make some progress here before I leave (and I’ll attempt to actually post my update on time next week!).

Stay tuned …

Have a wonderful weekend!  And if you’re looking for more fun makeover progress reports, head over to Calling It Home to check out my fellow participants One Week Challenge, Week 3 Progress HERE.
