Easy DIY Valentine’s Coasters

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Superbowl, Groundhog’s Day … quite the weekend!

Anyway, I’m back today with a quick and easy craft for Valentine’s Day … DIY coasters!

I purchased these coasters a couple months ago at Target on clearance.  I knew I wanted to do something with them … just didn’t know what … until this weekend!  I was working on a ‘LOVE’ mug project that I’ll be sharing this weekend on My Crafty Spot, when I remembered these coasters!  Some homemade heart and arrow stencils and a little paint later, I had some cute {and still very functional} coasters for Valentine’s Day!

I used some craft paint that I already had in my stash:

PEONY PINK AND METALLIC GOLD

For the heart stencil, I simply folded some adhesive vinyl in half, cut a half heart, then unfolded to reveal two stencils in one …

HANDMADE HEART STENCIL

I also cut out an arrow shape for another coaster and simply used frog tape for the fourth coaster:

COASTERS … READY FOR SOME PAINT

Using the pink and gold craft paint, I painted over the stencils …

PAINT!

Since the cork was so absorbent, I put on several layers (3 or 4 … dries super fast!).

After about a half hour, I peeled off the stencils and tape to reveal …

COMPLETED VALENTINE’S COASTERS!

Perfect spot for my new mugs (check back Saturday for details on that fun project) ..

Have a wonderful Monday!  Thanks for stopping by and Happy February!

  6. What a great idea, and I LOVE your featured image so pinnable. I love using vinyl as my stencil. Your should totally get a Silhouette then you can print off any pattern or shape your want as your Stencil. I think we are all going to have to copy this idea! I can see this featured all over the place.

    • I totally need a silhouette!!! How much are they?? You could totally steal this idea for every holiday or just stripes or something for everyday!

      • They are around $300 but I got mine on sale at Silhouette.com for around $260. I have a Cricut as well but LOVE my Silhouette so much better. All your fonts are free and any image is .99 cents or you can trace them yourself from and image you find on Google.
