DIY Fourth of July Cupcake Toppers

June 25, 2014

I am especially excited today to have Courtney from Crafts By Courtney here sharing a fun and festive Fourth of July project.  Courtney was one of my first blogger ‘friends’ and has helped me SO MUCH as I try to figure out the ins and outs of this blogging world.  Her hubby Clyde has also been a huge help when it comes to the technical side of things!  She also is a mama to three little boys (a club I just recently joined), so I feel like we already have a lot in common!  Enjoy her fun craft that she’s sharing here today, and then be sure to stop over to her site!  Her DIY Parties are AMAZING and her kids crafts are genius!

Courtney … take it away:

Hi, I’m Courtney from Crafts by Courtney. I’m SUPER excited to be guest posting for Katie today. This is actually my first guest post for another blog, and I’m SO happy it could be for Katie.

She has such a wonderful site and LOTS of creative ideas!

Since July 4th is right around the corner, I thought a super easy July 4th craft would be a GREAT idea! I loved the thought of making my own festive cupcake toppers using scrapbook paper.

This really was an SIMPLE project. I had all my topper made in just a few minutes. You could even get the kids involved in this project too!

  • Scrapbook paper
  • Decorative paper straws
  • Large and small star punches
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors

Getting Started

I started off by making a trip to my favorite craft store and grabbed some scrapbook paper (5 for $1.00…total bargain). I ALREADY had the cute paper straws on hand from a few 4th of July kids crafts I made recently.

Then, I pulled out my star punches and hot glue gun and was ready to get crafting!

Step 1 – Punch Out Large and Small Stars

I used the patterned scrapbook paper for my smaller stars and a solid color for the LARGER stars. Super easy so far, right?!?

Step 2 – Glue Stars Together

Then, I used my “HANDY DANDY” hot glue gun and glued my stars together.

Step 3 – Add Yours Straws

Next, I cut each star into four pieces, but you could always cut them in HALF if you want your stick longer.

Finally, I added a little hot glue to the BACK of the star and firmly placed my straw on top! Voila, cute cupcake toppers done in no time!

Finishing Touches

I think these cupcake toppers will looks VERY festive at your July 4th get together this year! And if the kids help you make them, they will be super proud to show ’em off!
