Good Morning, View from the Fridge Readers!

It’s Erin again, from The Blue Eyed Dove.  I’m excited to be back guest-posting today while Katie spends some much-needed time with her adorable boys :).  Since Summer is just flying by I thought I’d share an easy DIY craft with you…one that will be an easy transition to Fall for you too!

DIY Summer to Fall Flower Arrangement

I was a HUGE fan of everything sunflowers back in the 90’s. I had hats, shirts, shorts…basically if it had a sunflower on it I owned it.

I am very happy to see this trend resurfacing! And unlike the 90’s, now I have a place of my own to incorporate some sunflower home décor too.

Which is exactly what I am doing this end of Summer/Fall :) Yay!

I decided that my first sunflower inspired project would be an easy diy floral arrangement.

Sunflower Arrangement Supplies

I bought a tall metal vase and some paint at Michael’s, and then some flowers (that were 40% off) at JoAnn Fabrics.

Here’s how I put everything together:

DIY Sunflower Floral Arrangement Instructions

1. I could have left the metal vase as is, but that’s no fun! So I decided to paint some large navy stripes on it.

2. I measured the vase and determined the length of my stripes.

3. Then I marked where I needed to place my one-inch Frog Tape to ensure the stripes were even all the way around the vase.

4. I placed the Frog Tape on the vase, making sure to keep it as straight as possible and smoothed out any air bubbles.

5. Then I painted the vase. {Note: It would be faster to spray paint this, but it was a lazy Sunday and I needed something to occupy my time :)} I probably applied 5 coats of acrylic paint to the vase. Let the vase dry, and remove the Frog Tape.

7. Next, trim the stems of the flowers to your desired height.

8. Insert the stems into some styrofoam to secure the flowers, so they stand up nice and pretty! All while making sure the styrofoam is not visible.

And you have an easy diy sunflower floral arrangement!

Don’t you think sunflowers are the perfect transitional Summer to Fall flower!?

Bright and cheery…yet calm and rustic :)

Now since I have one sunflower project down I think it’s time to go to the mall and splurge on some sunflower inspired clothing.

If I could rock it in the 90’s I should still be able to now, right!?

Stay tuned for pics of that shopping trip!

I love sunflowers and their big smiley faces. I think we should all rock sunflower print clothes this autumn. I used to have an amazing skirt with sunflowers and poppies – why on earth didn’t I keep it!?!
