Christmas Home Tour 2014

December 4, 2014
Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

Decorating with three little ones at foot and a dog that likes to eat ornaments, garland, and fake berries takes a while.  A long, long while, my friends.

I thought I was on top of things this year.  We bought a tree a week BEFORE Thanksgiving.  Owen and Charlie went to Iowa for a weekend (leaving just Ben and I around the house).  And we’re still not completely done …

BUT … I’m about to call it quits and just enjoy the rest of the season.  I know that I’ll be sick of all this red in month, so I’ll embrace it while it’s here.

Let’s get to it, shall we?!?

I’m thrilled to be a part of a Blogger Christmas Home Tour this week!  Each day this week, several talented bloggers are sharing their gorgeous Christmas homes with you.  It’s sort of like a pep rally for Christmas decorating.  Lacking inspiration??  You won’t be after checking out all these tours.  I’m willing to bet your list will be waaay too long after visiting all these gorgeous homes!

a very merry christmas home tour 5

You can find the links to each of the 30+ bloggers participating at the end of this post, so be sure to scroll all the way down!

But here we go on OUR ‘tour’ …

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

As you can see, our decor centered around a Red, White, and Grey color scheme.  It’s a little bit bright for my usual tastes.  It’s a little too much ‘stuff’ for what we usually prefer, but for the Christmas season, it’s just right (this year at least!).

A couple weeks back, I shared our Easy DIY Wreath that now welcomes our guests …

Easy DIY Holiday Christmas Wreath from View From The Fridge

Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by Miss Mol (and a hallway of redness) …

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

She’s looking very serious in this picture, but usually she’ll greet you with WAY TOO MUCH enthusiasm!!  I think she’s just confused by why I’m standing out in the cold on our front porch with the camera and sans shoes (nap time only lasts so long, and I didn’t have time to put on shoes!!!).

Well … I guess I could have put on my boots that were staged for this picture!

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

Anyway, come on in and take off YOUR boots (yes … we’ve had snow for three weeks now), hang up your coat and bag …

Take off your boots (yes ... we've had snow for three weeks now), hang up your coat and bag ...

(isn’t that bag cute?!?  I did NOT DIY it (thanks, Mama’s Happy), but you totally could make one with the chalkboard label on the front and removable burlap bow!)

And come on in …

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

We took an old frame (actually a really obnoxious piece of ‘art’ that we got from my Dad’s house), pulled off the backing and glass, and added chicken wire to act as a board to hang our Christmas cards this year …

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

That boxwood wreath from Trader Joe’s looks nice for now, but might have to go as we start to fill up the frame … (I’m being optimistic that we will have lots of cards to add to it!).

As you round the corner, say hello to our Deer … turned Rudolph:

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

I got him from a local floral/gift shop here in Minneapolis (Bachman’s), and I kinda love him (so I framed him on the wall)!

and come on into our living room …

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

Yikes!  Lots of red, white, and grey.  Matt keeps telling me that he’s glad this ‘decor’ is only around for a month.  #rude (but I secretly sort of agree that the red is a bit overwhelming).

Because of new baby Ben, we needed another stocking this year.  Well … turns out I couldn’t buy the same stockings as our four other ones from last year anymore.  So I made some new ones:

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

One of these days I’ll share the easy tutorial on how I made them.  My stocking is the only ‘girly’ one (hey, I live in a house of boys … I need girly from time to time):

Bow and Lace Stocking for Mom

They are made using five different coordinating Premier Prints Fabric prints (Dot, Chevron, Plaid, Geometric, ‘Suzani’ Print).

I made a DIY Argyle Yarn wreath (tutorial coming Monday), added some poinsettias (thanks, Mom), and more red accents to our mantel:

And did you happen to catch our Birch Branch Christmas Tree post from Sunday:

Moving on to the dining room …

I made some more pillow covers with the same Premier Prints Fabric as the stockings (using this envelope pillow tutorial).

You’ll notice that we are starting to get this space filled in with furniture (In THIS POST we had no dining room furniture, then just a table in our Fall Tour, and now a bench and a couple chairs.  Progress!!)

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

And my newest addition to our Christmas decor … these awesome birch vases (also purchased from Bachman’s):

christmas-tour-view-from-the-fridge-2014-vaselantern2

I also painted a tree on some brown kraft wrapping paper and taped it over our orange and navy art with some {easily removable} festive washi tape.

The white tree in better with our Christmas theme …

I probably should have spent some more time setting a fancy table (0n our new table), but frankly … I ran out of time.  Cranberries in a vase, with some faux greenery and twine made the centerpiece.  A DIY table runner (again, made from the plaid Premier Prints fabric) and a couple gold chargers from the dollar store worked just fine.

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

Our made-over chair got a new pillow (or really just a new pillow COVER):

That vase is made using a Dollar Store stocking hat tied at the top:

Let’s keep going into the kitchen:

A couple festive touches to this area …

Another Rudolph, poinsettia, and an owl (?):

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

We’re proudly displaying the Gingerbread Houses Owen and Charlie made on Thanksgiving with Grandma:

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

I love the idea of displaying their houses (that they worked SO hard on) in those glass jars with fake snow (good call, Grandma)!

We dressed up our Chalkboard (one of these days I’m going to figure out how to draw one of those fancy chalk pictures on this board …):

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

And you can just barely catch a glimpse of our awesome lighted wreath on the right side of the picture (I forgot to take any more pictures of this wreath), but I LOVE it!

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

And, yes … we do have a real tree (not just the birch branch one).  It smells great!  The lights are beautiful at night!  The boys love it!  It’s just not quite picture perfect during the day …

Red, White, and Grey Christmas Home Tour via View From The Fridge

We do have some CUTE ornaments on that tree …

And the boys favorite part of the whole house???

Their little tree in their NEW ROOM:

Ben is supervising Charlie adorning the tree:

Well … thanks for stopping by.  I hope you are enjoying your holiday season so far.  And now for the rest of the tours …

So … grab a cup of coffee (or wine) and …

Curl up with a blanket,

put your feet up:

and check out these other lovely, festive homes!

Thanks, Lindsay! The post was done VERY last minute and most of the pictures were done with a baby in one hand … camera in the other!! That metal stag head was from Bachman’s (a MN floral/garden/gift shop). If you’re up here, you should check it out (especially around the fall and holiday seasons)!

Ummm …. my house is a complete disaster most of the time, lady!!! I just shove the mess out of camera range for these pictures. I think next month I’ll do a … ‘real life’ tour and show everyone how much of a mess our house is usually!! Thanks for your sweet comment, though!! I’ll pretend (in my mind) that it actually is this clean all the time. #liar!!
