We’re still plugging away on Owen and Charlie’s Big Boy room! One more week left, so we better get our act together here to bring you the big reveal next Thursday!
This marks week 5 of the One Room Challenge (brought to you by Linda at Calling It Home).
If you’ve missed the previous weeks updates, we’re in the process of making over Owen and Charlie’s Big Boy Room, and let me just recap our progress so far.
Week Two: Lots of destruction. Lots. Carpet gone. Old trim gone. And discovery of some (less than perfect) wood floors underneath!
This week was all about moving in the furnishings! I’ll just give you a sampling of some of the touches we’re putting in place, and save most of the pictures of the room for the big reveal next week.
Here’s a really quick summary of some of the items we’ve purchased for the room:
Okay … I realize there’s not much color going on, but remember we’ve got quite a bold accent wall going on plus I’m on the hunt for a few bright accessories to throw in some ‘pops’ of color. We stuck with a very neutral theme on all the bigger pieces.
BIG BOY ROOM FURNISHINGS
First up, Owen has his very first ‘Big Boy Bed’ to put in the new room. (he’s actually had the bed for quite awhile, but it’s finally going in the finished room).
We decided on the Ikea Hemnes Daybed. After much debate whether we should try to fit a Full or Queen size bed in the room or stick with a twin, we decided on this bed which is a bit of a compromise. It fits absolutely perfect in the weird nook … that was plus #1. And … it can be made into a full size bed by sliding out the drawers. Takes up less space like a twin, but we have the ability to make into a larger bed if necessary (maybe for out of town guests down the road) … plus #2. Also going for it? The price. At $300 we can afford to update it later in his life if necessary.
We also purchased a duvet cover from Ikea (here’s a preview of the bedding):
As you can see … Molly has made herself right at home.
We also bought quite a bit more at Ikea for the room …
- Some Mini Lack Floating Shelves
- A couple Ribba Picture Ledges
- Simple plain white curtains that we jazzed up a bit with some easy Navy ribbon trim (they look better hanging up … I promise. This was a shot late at night … prior to ironing):
We purchased this Grey Rug for the space from RugsUSA. Actually, this rug was purchased in January as planned for Baby Ben’s nursery. Instead, we’ve decided to use it in this room (sorry, Ben … we’ll get you a new one).
We had originally planned on a blue dresser (from the Mood Board), but with the blue herringbone accent wall, we decided instead to use the white dresser we already owned (also from Ikea).
We have a light fixture, too. It’s hung, but the ceiling now needs some touch up work …
We also have to finish up hanging closet doors, and adding some fun accessories, pictures, and art.
And paint the bottom of Charlie’s crib (details, details).
Can’t wait to share the big reveal next week, though!!
Let’s review the to-do list:
Just the fun part left this week … oh, and hanging those closet doors.
