And the red is gone!

Modern Entryway Makeover with Frog Tape | View From The Fridge

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of FrogTape® for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

A little over a week ago, I announced that we were taking part in the One Room Challenge again this Spring, and this season we are making over our {way too red} entryway.

Well, it’s taken us nearly an entire week, but I’m happy to report that the red is gone!  It’s been replaced by my favorite color … white.  We also managed to throw in a bit of my other favorite color … grey with a fun pattern.

Thanks to my two tiny assistants, some rainy cold weather (that kept us inside), and lots of FrogTape® brand painter’s tape we managed to get the job done!

Now … If you’re new here, and you haven’t spent read a lot of my home decor posts, you should know that I love white on our walls.  Maybe a bit of grey here and there, maybe a fun accent wall occasionally, but really I want most of our entire house to be painted white (inside and out).  I don’t hate color, I just like to incorporate it into other things in our home (think pillows, art, curtains, furniture, etc).  Part of me thinks that white is appealing to me right now because it’s clean, simple, and uncluttered, three things which other parts of my life are far from right now (three little ones at foot tends to up the chaos factor around here these days).  I mention this, because I know some of you are going to think we’re crazy for painting our big barn door all white (isn’t the red part of the appeal??).  Well … it’s just paint.  We can always go back to the sea of red when (and if) we’re ready for that again someday in the future.  For now … I am LOVING how bright, crisp, and clean our entryway looks after all this paint.

Let’s start from the beginning:  The {very red} BEFORE:

and from another angle:

Modern Entryway Makeover with Frog Tape | View From The Fridge

It’s a very narrow entryway that we rarely use ourselves (I don’t even think we have a key to the front door).  We use the garage entry, but all of our guests use this door.  However, since we don’t have another good space for storing our coats, hats, and bags …. this space (the ‘nook’ right next to the door) becomes the dumping ground for our stuff.

Problem is, however … it’s not very welcoming (or functional) for our guests:

And you can hang your coat …. um …. where?!?

Our mission:  brighten up the space and make it more functional and welcoming to guests!  And step ONE in this process was paint.  Lots and lots of white paint.

Now … you’ve heard a million times that prep work is key in painting, right?!?  And it’s so true.  Unless maybe you’re a master painter that can keep those brush strokes perfectly contained to the wall you’re painting  For the rest of us … prep work, i.e. cleaning and TAPPING, are key!  KEY, my friends.  Since we’ve started on our painting quest here in our home, I’ve always used FrogTape® brand painter’s tape to help with this step.

I am far from a perfectionist in a lot of areas of my life, but when it comes to painting … I am slightly obsessed with clean, crisp lines.  Hey … if I’m going to spend my limited amount of free time painting … it better look good when it’s done, right?!?

FrogTape® just works.  It keeps paint out, keeps lines sharp, and prevents paint bleed with it’s patented PaintBlock® Technology.  And we used a lot … (we’re very messy painters, apparently).

What’s awesome is that you can buy the Multi Surface FrogTape for all your tapping on cured surfaces … but they also make Delicate Surface FrogTape for your ‘just painted’ spots.  That means no waiting days and days for your fresh paint to cure before tapping!  And I’m very inpatient …

With the trim, floor, and adjoining walls tapped, it was time to call in my help:

let them help with the priming … and they were thrilled!

One coat of primer … and three coats of Benjamin Moore’s Cloud White paint, and the red was gone!

And look at these crisp lines!!

Modern Entryway Makeover with Frog Tape | View From The FridgePerfection!!  I love, love, love how easy it is to get crisp clean lines with FrogTape!  I’ll never go without again!!

The door was in a bit of rough shape thanks to our overly friendly … and curious … dog, Molly (who likes to jump on the door to see out the window and greet visitors).  Here’s a close up:

With some tape … and more paint:

It’s looking much better … (though, at some point, we’re going to need to replace it).  And those nice clean paint lines (do you see me smiling right now?!?):

And you know how I mentioned that ‘touch of grey paint’, too?  Well … I added a fun pattern to the top part of our entry ‘nook’ (thanks again to lots, and lots of FrogTape).  Here’s a peek at how it turned out:

Again … the prep work was key here, too (and definitely the most time consuming part)!  I created a herringbone pattern using tape (similar, but on a much smaller scale, than what we did in the Boys’ Room last Fall):

A couple hours … and almost a whole roll of tape later, the wall was ready for the grey paint:

Unless of course you like the look of the green FrogTape pattern … maybe you don’t even want to paint it!  But we did …

Adds a bit of interest to the very white space, huh?

We still have several things left to do in this space (build a new bench, add some art, some storage, and accessories), but with the red gone, we’re well on our way.

And the before and afters side by side (because I like to see my accomplishments!!):

I know it’s not for everyone, but we’re absolutely loving how bright it looks now (and clean, and uncluttered … ).

Love the progress! We had red in our old home and I loved it until I was tired of it and then I was so OVER it. Really love how bright and fresh the entryway looks now.

What difference a paint job makes! Looks much more open and airy. We don’t use our front door either, but neither do our guests, they all come to the back door!

I love it, clean , white, calming. My living room used to have a red wall, when I needed serenity I got rid of the red and green, and it it light grey. Much cleaner and much calmer. Great job!

Wow! That transformation looks fantastic! And the herringbone looks amazing. Only if I had the patience and precision to make it come out that even! We are moving next week and will find ourselves with plenty of painting tasks but now I know to get the FrogTape to help!
