$3 Fabric Napkins to {cute} Pom Pom Pillow Cover!

April 9, 2014
PomPomPillow1

I have news!  Another project for the nursery is complete!  No … we haven’t finished painting (not even finished with the first coat).  No … we don’t even have the boys moved out of the nursery (because their room isn’t even remotely finished).

The baby may not have a room, however he or she now has a thrifty pom pom throw pillow!  Apparently, I’m really good at prioritizing what’s important (ha!).

I found some cute fabric napkins on clearance at Marshall’s the other week for $5.  I was thrilled!  Then I went to check out, and found out they were 40% off that price.  $3 … even better.  I mainly just liked the minty color and geometric pattern, and knew they would be great for something in the nursery.  Some yellow Pom Poms from JoAnn’s and 30 minutes of sewing later, I had a fun pillow cover for the nursery (that will exist one of these days … I hope).

Wouldn’t it be nice to see this fun pillow in the glider it’s meant for IN the nursery?!?  Well, here’s what it looks like in there still:

And here’s the deign board for the nursery (read more about the plans here):

Grey, Turquoise, Yellow Nursery

But back to the pillow …

Basically, I ended up using 3 of the 4 napkins in the set.  I made a simple envelope style pillow cover.  For full details and tutorial on how to sew an envelope pillow cover with Pom Pom trim, see this post.  Here are some pictures of the process for this cover:

Now … I’m off to do some actual work on finishing these rooms … 5 1/2 weeks and counting …

This is super cute! Love colors and I can’t believe it was so cheap to make! They charge $30 for good throw pillow these days!!

Ha! I guess the baby really doesn’t care, but I feel like if we don’t finish the room before he/she gets here it may never get done … :) What did I do with all my time prior to kiddos ?!?!

Hopping over from the link up. I saw the same napkins at TJ Maxx and thought they were super cute! What a great idea turning napkins into a pillow cover.

Thanks, Maggie!! I just loved the color and design, but we never use fabric napkins around here! A pillow cover is a much better use of this cute fabric!! Thanks for stopping by! Have a good rest of your week!

That is so cute! And it doesn’t look too complicated for my basic sewing skills!! Not sure how far along you are, but as long as you have some kind of bed to lay the baby in, even if the nursery isn’t done, you’ll be good to go!

Hi Lauren! Thanks … and really, it is about the easiest sewing project EVER! I only have 4.5 more weeks to go (assuming baby comes on due date), so I really need to get BUSY!!! I’m sure the baby will sleep in our room for the first couple months (my first two did), but I’m afraid if I don’t finish the nursery now … I never will! Thanks for stopping by!
